Jaunt is a playful app that encourages people to connect with nature through hiking. Unlike most apps in this space, the features emphasize curiosity about the natural world, social community building, and developing a relationship with the land. This app is designed to meet the needs of both new or casual hikers as well as more experienced hikers who don't feel included in the narrative of mainstream outdoors brands.
A friendly and vibrant color palette lets you know right away that this app isn't about reading topo maps or tracking the most elevation gain possible. The laid-back italic serif headings and chunky geometric body copy create a feel of accessibility and familiarity. This app sidesteps technical tools and fitness tracking to prioritize features underlining the experience of hiking itself such as wildlife identification and meetup groups.
This project began as a collaborative process with a team of 3 other student designers. We conducted interviews, built an affinity map, crafted personas and user flows, and then broke off to individually build the app as we imagined it. From hand-drawn wireframes, to mid-fidelity digital wireframes, and then ultimately a fully-prototyped app.
